Application/Audition Guidelines for Music Scholarship

*APPLICATION GUIDELINE
    I. Must pursue a major in music.

AUDITION GUIDELINES
 **I. Complete Scholarship Application form.

    II. Auditions may be made in person or by video tape
        1. If auditioning in person, please send three possible dates when you can visit
            the campus. This must be before March 1 of the year you intend to enroll.
        2. If auditioning by tape, it must be video or DVD only. No audio tapes please.

    III. Audition content - Two solo selections should be presented as follows:

        1. VOCAL
            a) One art song from the following stylistic periods (preferably in a language
                other than English) representing your highest level of technical
                achievement to date. Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or 20th
                Century.
            b) One art song (preferably in English) from a contrasting style period to your
                first selection or one hymn or gospel song.

        2. KEYBOARD
            a) Your ability to play the major scales on your instrument
            b) One prepared piece that would qualify for high school music competition
                showing your technical and musical skills. Memorization not required.

        3. NON-KEYBOARD
            a) Play selection(s) demonstrating your technical and lyrical abilities.
                Selection(s) should be an excerpt from a classical piece or an etude,
                exercise or audition piece you have learned. Your audition should contain
                both lyrical and technical elements. The total time for these pieces should
                be between three and five minutes. Whether you use one piece of this
                length that demonstrates both of these or if you use two separate pieces is
                up to you.
            b) Play an excerpt of a Jazz (Swing) selection if you are planning to participate
                in the Jazz program at Trevecca.
            c) Play a short, one minute piece on any instrument that you double on.
                Memorization not required.

    IV. Repertoire - Submit at the time of audition, a list of solo selections, with
           composer, which you have performed in the past two years. This list should be
            typewritten.

    V. Auditions should be sent to the following:

            **Must be accompanied by Scholarship Application. (Applications may be
            received by writing or phoning the Division of Music - see above or is attached to
            these guidelines.)

            Application and audition deadline is March 1 of the year you intend to enroll.

    VI. Announcement of music scholarship awards will be made soon after March 15. All
        scholarships are, of course, subject to regulations of the Dean of Enrollment
        Management and Director of Student Financial Aid.
