Trevecca runners won the top five places at the annual Together We Can 3K College Challenge held on September 13, 2003, on the campus of Belmont University. This event, a charity race to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank, brings together students from four universities in the city --Vanderbilt, Belmont, David Lipscomb, and Trevecca.
Students from Trevecca performed well. Nathan Barefield, a junior transfer student from Havelock, North Carolina, took first place with a time of 9:53 in the 1.86 mile race. Nicholas Landry (10:47) and James Storie (10:58), both seniors at Trevecca, took second and third places, respectively. Loni Osegueda, a member of the Lady Trojan soccer team, secured a first-place finish for the women with a time of 12:10.
Overall, Trevecca entered more than fifty students in the charity race, more than Belmont University, David Lipscomb University, and Vanderbilt University combined. Trevecca also had eight staff/faculty members run in the race. ìThe race was fun, but more importantly it was for a good cause,î says participant Nicholas Landry. Trevecca raised more than $600 for the charity. Participants were also encouraged to bring canned goods to the all-day event. (9/19/03)
