October has been declared Christian Higher Education Month (CHEM) in recognition of the many institutions of Christian higher education in the United States. In response to this special month, the Web site of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) is featuring profiles of outstanding alumni from member institutions all month.
Explaining the importance of the role of Christian higher education Bob Andringa, president of CCCU, says, "Through most of civilization, the best art, music, science, and literature have come from individuals with deep faith in God."
The 107 members of the CCCU nominated outstanding alumni for the CHEM recognitions. Of those nominations, 31 were chosen in five fields of expertise: government and law, arts and entertainment, community and society, science and technology, and business. The stories of these alumni of Christian colleges and universities stress how their lives and successes can be traced to the lessons learned on Christian campuses.
