Student leaders "retreat" before start of school

Student leaders Josh Shope, Eric Johnson, Shelley Gilmore, Celesta Cox, James Ericson, and Greg Lyon hit a rapids during the retreat for Trevecca's student government officers.
Twenty-two members of Trevecca's Student Government Association journeyed to Bryson City, North Carolina, for their annual retreat August 19-21, 2004. The purpose of this event was three-fold: to give these student leaders one last opportunity to relax before the activity-filled first week of the new school year, to help them get to know each other, and to provide them with some time of spiritual nourishment as preparation for their student leadership roles.

The sponsor of the group was Michael Johnson, assistant dean of students for community life; he also was the chef and did all of the cooking for the group. Evening devotions were conducted by Greg Lyon, chaplain of the Associated Student Body, and Scott Oldham, junior class chaplain. On their last day in the mountains, the group went white-water rafting.

The Student Government Association is responsible for planning and conducting events for each night of Welcome Week, the first week of school (See the article "Welcome week").
