Harris named Conference Coach of the Year

Sam Harris, menís basketball coach at Trevecca for eleven years, has been named TranSouth Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. This award is given to the coach of the team that wins the conference title that year. To win the national title for coach of the year, the coachís team must have won the conference title. Under Harrisís leadership, the Trojans had previously finished second (of the six teams) in the conference, but this year is the first time they have won the conference title.

This year has been a special one for the Trojans because many obstacles have helped them form stronger relationships, thus building a foundation for a stronger team. The relationships among the teammates are strong and the relationships between players and coaches are strong. The death of teammate Robert Garrett in August was a blow for the team, but team members rallied and worked to make the season a good one.

ìThe boys wanted conference rings this year,î says Harris. ìThey said that whether they won or lost the championship, the rings symbolized something for themóall the obstacles they had overcome together.î

Harris has received Coach of the Year Awards beforeówhen he coached at Messiah College in Pennsylvania and when he coached at Judson College in Illinois.
