Trevecca's baseball team, the NAIA No. 8 and #1-seed, eliminated #3-seed Lyon College in the third day of the TranSouth Athletic Conference Tournament. Trevecca is undefeated in the tournament and has a 43-15 record for the season.
Todd Dunlap (9-2) picked up the complete game, allowing eight hits, two walks, and one run and striking out six. Dunlap is two wins away from tying the Trevecca record for career wins. The pitcher for Lyon was Justin Jusqua (8-3), allowing eight runs on seven hits and three walks.
Scott Miope led the Trevecca offense and was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI, and a home run. Shaun Cozart was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer.
Trevecca plays again at 11 A.M. on May 5 in Shelby Park.
Trevecca's women (36-6) were upset by the Freed Hardeman Lady Lions (24-14) in a tournament match played May 4, 2005. The teams were tied (1-1) at the end of the first inning. Then the Lady Trojans scored two runs on a Lindsay Howard home run in the bottom of the third. The Lady Lions responded with two runs in the top of the fifth and capped their performance with a grand slam home run by Brittany Johnson in the top of the seventh, winning the game 8-3.
Freed Hardeman scored eight runs on 11 hits; Trevecca scored three runs on eight hits. Both teams had two errors.
Freed Hardeman faces Martin Methodist (No. 3) at 11 A.M. on Thursday, May 5. The loser of that game will play Trevecca in the loser's bracket on Thursday, May 5, at 4 P.M.
