Menís basketball: Survive scare against Fisk

Trevecca (6-0) hosted Fisk University Monday night and survived a scare, winning 86-80. 

The Trojans and Bulldogs (3-2) kept it close in the first couple minutes of the game but Trevecca went on a 8-2 run to make the score 12-7. Fisk came back quickly and came back to take the lead 17-16. Much of the first half was spent see sawing the score with seven lead changes. With Trevecca winning by one 22-21, Fisk went on a 11-2 run to extend the lead to 33-24. The Trojans were able to cut in the lead by four to make the score 40-35 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Trevecca opened with a 7-0 run to take the lead 42-40. With the Trojans trailing 46-48 Trevecca went on a 9-0 run with back-to-back-to-back threes from Alex Renfroe and Josh Helton to put the Trojans up 55-50 with twelve minutes to go in the game. Fisk fought back to cut the lead to one but the Trojans went on a 7-0 to put Trevecca up by eight. The Bulldogs came back and tied the game at 70 with four and half minutes left in the game. The game stayed close in the final minutes. With 12 seconds left Josh Helton hits a three in the corner to give the Trojans a four point lead and two late free throws by Marcos Salvi made the scored 86-80.

Next, Trevecca will travel to Plainview, Texas where they will participate in the Wayland Baptist Classic.
