Smith chosen athletic director of the year

Trevecca’s Alan Smith has recently been chosen as the 2006 TranSouth Conference Athletic Director of the Year, a distinction selected by a vote of all TranSouth athletic directors. TranSouth Athletic Conference commissioner E.L. Hutton made this announcement Tuesday, May 2.

Smith served as athletic director at Trevecca since the 1998-99 school year and served as a coach since 1972. Since his hiring, Smith has overseen the addition of four new sports, men's and women's teams in golf and soccer, and the building of two new on-campus facilities. Trevecca’s softball and soccer facilities were added, and major improvements were made to the baseball field.

Trevecca’s teams have seen quite a bit of success under Smith’s leadership.  This season Trevecca teams earned the championship in men’s basketball and women’s golf and softball. Last year, Trevecca won four conference championships (men’s basketball, baseball, softball, women’s golf). In addition, nearly every athletic team has seen team and individual records fall over the last two seasons.

Smith was inducted into the Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1995 Smith was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. Smith was the first, and remains the only, person from Trevecca to be inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.

Trevecca Nazarene University is grateful for the contributions of Alan Smith and congratulates him for this honor.
