Michael Johnson, Assistant Dean of Students for Community Life
According to Michael Johnson, current assistant dean of students for community life, he has been at Trevecca for what he says seems like most of his life.
“I really do think God led me here,” Johnson said.
Trevecca was a part of Johnson’s growing up years while his father served as a district superintendent and a member of Trevecca’s Board of Trustees. Yet, it was the providential voice of another person, Mike Estep, who led Johnson to choose Trevecca over the other schools who had also offered scholarship dollars. Estep recruited Johnson to take part in a new student admissions counselor program. Johnson feels that he has been pulling for Trevecca’s success ever since.
As a 1982 graduate of the University, Johnson is currently in his 17th year of work at the University. Johnson holds an undergraduate degree is Communication and Human Relations and a master’s in educational leadership; both degrees are from Trevecca.
Johnson has also played a major role in sports at Trevecca, serving previously as interim softball coach, assistant men’s golf coach, and now for the past five years, head coach of women’s golf.
Working at Trevecca has helped to remind his life is not just about himself.“Even before I became a parent, I knew that parents who entrust their children to us were doing something quite significant,” Johnson said.
