Trevecca will host the Robert Garrett Classic this weekend, November 10-11 (Friday-Saturday). The Classic is in memory of former Trojan Robert Garrett II.
A day prior to the start of classes at Trevecca in the fall of 2005, Robert Garrett – a 6’4” senior forward from Antioch, TN – was killed in an auto accident while returning to school. Garrett had planned to begin his senior season with the Trojans that fall. His memory is honored with the Robert Garrett Classic basketball tournament held on Trevecca’s campus. “Robert will always be remembered for his words of comfort and his caring love for everyone he came in contact with,” said Sam Harris, Trevecca Men’s Basketball Coach. “He had never met a stranger – everyone he ever met was a friend.”
The tournament raises money for the TreveccaNazareneUniversity established scholarship fund in memory of the late Robert Garrett II. Additional donations may be made by contacting the athletic office at 615.248.1271.
The Trevecca men’s basketball team will play Concordia-Selma (5-1) in the tournament at 7:00 P.M. on Friday and TaylorUniversity (3-0) on Saturday at 4:00 P.M.
