Trevecca recognized as NAIA Champion of Character

For the second year in a row the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named Trevecca Nazarene University and over 100 other colleges and universities to the list of Champions of Character institutions for the 2005-06 school year. Trevecca Nazarene University continues to embrace the program by promoting or implementing activities related to the five core values: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

All of Trevecca’s athletic teams participate in activities in the community and beyond. Trevecca’s athletics teams have been involved in trips to help iwith Katrina relief efforts. They also have been involved locally by helping with reading programs for area schools and by ministering to the elderly and youth in low income areas of the inner city.

“The Champions of Character program offers institutions a game plan dedicated to character-driven intercollegiate athletics. The institutions recognized are not only creating a positive experience for students but also fostering environments that not only teach competition but life lessons that can be used in all realms of sport and society,” said NAIA Director of Champions of Character Initiatives Rob Miller. “These institutions should be commended for their dedication and commitment to the initiative.”

Introduced in 2000, the nationally recognized Champions of Character program seeks to create environments in which student-athletes, youth, parents, coaches, officials and spectators are committed and understand the true spirit of competition.
