Trojan Josh Helton and lady Trojan Jennifer Bognar were named TranSouth Athletic Conference co-men’s and co-women’s basketball players of the week for the week of January 14.
Helton, a 6’1” junior guard from Mount Juliet, Tenn., helped lead #RV Trevecca to a 3-0 week and a second place tie (5-2) in the TranSouth Conference. The Trojans are now 12-7 overall. Helton had a career high 31 points in Trevecca’s 97-76 win over No. 5 Lambuth University. He hit 11-of-15 from the field and was 6-of-9 from three-point range in the game along with pulling down six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. I For the week they averaged 20 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.3 steals for the week while shooting 23-for-41 (56%) from the field, 11-for-19 (58%) from three-point range, and 4-of-6 (67%) from the foul line.
Bognar, a 6’0” center from Nashville (Hillsboro), Tenn., led NAIA No. 9 Trevecca to a 2-1 week and the Trojans are now 14-3 on the season and in a 5-way tie (5-2) for first place in the TranSouth Conference. Bognar’s career high 30 points helped Trevecca defeated #RV Lambuth 81-69. She added 10 rebounds for the double-double and her defense keyed by five blocks. Against the Eagles Bognar hit 12-of-17 from the field and all six of her free throw attempts. For the week Bognar averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks while hitting 22-of-35 (63%) from the field and 11-for-13 (85%) from the foul line.
