Trevecca Nazarene University

Former faculty member dies

The University community was informed of the death on Saturday of Barbara McClain Bloom, retired member of the music faculty. Mrs. Bloom, a resident of Bourbonnais, Illinois, had undergone gall bladder surgery a few weeks ago; at that time doctors discovered that she had cancer. She opted not to receive an experimental treatment.

Visitation for Mrs. Bloom will be held at College Church of the Nazarene In Bourbonnais, Illinois, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M., with the service held at that church at 11 A.M. on Wednesday.

Known as "Miss Mac" to her students, Mrs. Bloom taught in Trevecca's music department from 1956 to 1993. She organized the choir for women, Treble Tones, in 1958 and served as its director for its first 11 years. She served as the chairperson of the music department and led its effort to earn national accreditation. In 1976 she was the first female to be awarded the honorary doctorate by the University.
