Trevecca softball player wins national honor

A Trevecca softball player is among nine student-athletes who have been named winners of the 2007 Adidas Golden Shoe Award, which is presented annually by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to the top base runners in each of the following nine divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, and NWAACC.

Chelsea Bailey, a Trevecca sophomore, won the award for the NAIA. Last season she stole 50 bases in 68 games and helped Trevecca achieve the NAIA’s fifth-best stolen base per game average. Chelsea came in second at the plate, hitting .425, and helping the Trojans finish the year 59-11, an accomplishment that secured the team a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. Additionally, Chelsea scored  68 runs and finished second in doubles (16) and triples (three). Chelsea is a native of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

This award is presented annually by Adidas, the NFCA’s “Official Footwear.”
