Brenda Martin MHR 43 has been named 2008 Alumnus of the Year at ColumbiaStateCommunity College, where she began her college career. Martin is a wife, mother, and a public health professional, who worked full-time for the Department of Health, as a clerk, while attending college part-time. She graduated summa cum laude from ColumbiaState in 1982, and in 1993 she enrolled in Trevecca’s Management and Human Relations Program, graduating in 1994, again summa cum laude. While at Trevecca, she was named to Who’s Who Among Students in AmericanUniversities and Colleges and was inducted into Phi Delta Lambda, an honor society.
Martin is heavily involved in MauryCounty organizations. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Maury Vision and serves as a new elder working with Christian Education Ministry at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is an alumnus of the 2000-2001 Class of Leadership Maury. She served on the Vision Commission until it was dissolved and was recognized by The Tennessee Public Health Association (THPA) for the 40 years of meritorious service at the state’s annual public health meeting.
The Alumnus of the Year award recognizes a graduate of ColumbiaState who is nominated on the basis of that person’s accomplishments at ColumbiaState in the areas of occupation and career accomplishments, personal advancement and improvement, and distinguished community service.
