Trevecca Nazarene University

ISLE on campus

Trevecca’s School of Education hosted Intensive Summer Learning Experience (ISLE) on campus June 20-28.

About 100 students came from as far as Massachusetts, Georgia, Alabama, and Arkansas to participate in daily classes and evening activities designed to follow a holistic model which incorporates mental, physical, social, and emotional elements in learning.

The events of the week included a trip to the Schermerhorn Symphony Center for a Friday evening concert and dinner downtown, a BBQ dinner prepared one evening by alumni of the program, skits at evening gatherings, a city-wide photo scavenger hunt culminating in a dinner at Centennial Park.

Other highlights included a Sunday morning service with University President Dan Boone as speaker, a leadership lesson with Malone College President and Trevecca alumnus Gary Streit, a vespers service with Trevecca professors Daniel and Renita Koehn, a performance by Abraham Lincoln impersonator Dennis Boggs, a workshop with Richard Benjamin on integrating art into classes, and a “potato farmer” illustration on integrity with Trevecca professor Ruth Cox.
