Sports publications earn awards

TAMPA, Fla. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recognized six publications from the Trevecca Nazarene University athletic department during the Clarence “Ike” Pearson Awards Luncheon at the annual NAIA-SIDA (Sports Information Directors Association) Conference in Tampa, Fla.

For the third year in a row Trevecca’s athletic website was ranked in the top five sites of the nearly 300 NAIA schools. Trevecca’s softball and men’s golf media guide covers received the “Best of the NAIA” Award. In addition, Trevecca’s athletic publications garnered three top-five finishes and a top-ten. The women’s basketball and baseball media guides each were ranked fifth best, and the softball guide was eighth overall.

Two articles—“Flock of Stegalls” and “Smith Retirement”—were entered in the writing contest and placed sixth and seventh overall.

Since entering its first NAIA-SIDA contest in 1999, Trevecca has achieved the following record for its sports publications—21 top-five finishes, 35 top-ten finishes,  five “best cover” awards, and a runner-up “best cover” award.

This year the production of the guides was led by Trevecca director of sports information Gregory Ruff. Interior graphic design was primarily provided by Marcos Salvi, photography by Gregory Ruff and Elizabeth Streight, and editing by Jan Greathouse, Brenda Patterson, Tony Stogsdill, and Elizabeth Streight. Cover designs were supplied by Rick Hill, David Patrick, and Elizabeth Streight. In addition, each coaching staff contributed to the production of their media guide and portion of the website. The softball cover design was created by Rick Hill; Elizabeth Streight designed the men’s golf cover.
