Lena Hegi Welch was named dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, which will offer two new minors in the fall of 2009: art and art therapy.

Welch, a ’81, Ed.D. ‘05 alumna, has been a member of the Department of Communication Studies since 1988. Prior to her being named dean, she served as chair of the Division of Communication, Language, and Literature.

Trevecca offers these programs in response to interest expressed by current and prospective students; as support for existing programs such as graphic arts & dramatic arts and the proposed Center for Worship Arts program; and as a means of promoting Christian arts. The four existing art courses are drawing healthy enrollments each semester.

Professor Betsy Karounos, an American contemporary realist artist who received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, currently teaches in the program. For more information about Karounos, visit www.betsykarounos.com.
