Former Trevecca softball standout named head coach

Former Trevecca softball standout Ashley McCool has been named the head softball coach at Lindsey Wilson College.

The Blue Raiders are a member of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and the Mid-South Athletic Conference. The appointment marks the first collegiate head coaching position for the Brentwood, Tenn., native. McCool served as assistant coach last season at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

McCool helped Lee to a 39-14 record and a share of the Southern States Athletic Conference (an NAIA conference) regular season championship last season. Prior to Lee, McCool spent two seasons as the head coach at Antioch (Tenn.) High School.

“I am so excited about this wonderful opportunity at Lindsey Wilson College,” McCool said. “I look forward to working with the returning student-athletes and incoming freshmen to continue with the recent success in building a winning tradition.”

McCool knows a little bit about winning traditions.

As a student-athlete, McCool helped Trevecca Nazarene University to a pair of top-five finishes at the NAIA Softball World Series. As a freshman at Trevecca, the Ezell-Harding Christian School product was named the TranSouth Newcomer of the Year and to the TranSouth and Region XI First Team. As a junior she was the TranSouth and Region XI Player of the Year and a NAIA First Team All-American.
