Trevecca’s hill was an exciting place during Homecoming, November 6-7, 2009.

The parade on Friday afternoon featured several horses and riders, a high school marching band, many floats, and Santa Claus on a motorcycle. The drama department presented Seussical, and more than 17 reunions were held, including the 40th anniversary reunion of the baseball program. A highlight of the weekend was a piano concert in honor of  long-time Trevecca music professor Barbara McClain Bloom, presented by eight of her former piano students—Pat Ensor Bowden, Ed Cooner, Gina Smith Gallup, Brad Guthrie, Brenda Miller Martin, Carol Ensor Patilla, Tim Pitzer, and Todd Webb. Other events included the much-loved Hilltop Home Companion and the Music City Roadhouse.

The Trevecca Alumni Association presented awards to two alumni and one friend of the University. The T Award for a Layperson was presented to Jim Hiatt, dean of the School of Business, in appreciation for his 27 years of service to the University. Rob Staples, former faculty member at Southern Nazarene University and at Nazarene Theological Seminary, was honored with the T Award for a minister in honor of his years of service to the Church of the Nazarene. Jim Foglesong, founding director of Trevecca’s Music Business Program and Trevecca’s Distinguished Professor of Music Business, was given the McClurkan Award (for a non-alumnus) in gratitude for his many contributions to Trevecca.

During the weekend the University inducted five alumni into the Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame: Elliot Johnson, former baseball coach; Kevin Brown, former baseball player; Hilary Howard Montgomery, former basketball player; Molly Schoenberg Harned, former basketball player; and Wendy Allen Apanco, former softball player.

Trevecca’s basketball teams were victorious in their Homecoming games. The men narrowly defeated Point Loma Nazarene University.

Trevecca’s men will host a Nazarene Basketball Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 27-28. Teams participating will be Mid-America, Olivet, Southern, and Trevecca.
