Trevecca student wins election in Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature

The Executive Council of the 40th General Assembly of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature announces the election of Justin Lambert from Trevecca Nazarene University as Speaker of the Senate.

Lambert is a junior Chemistry, History and Government Education major from Centennial, Col. Lambert has participated in TISL for the past two years as a delegate from the University. Previously, Lambert was a Senator and Chair of the Judiciary Committee.

“We are very proud of Justin’s achievements in his time at TISL,” said Jeff Wilson, Executive Director of TISL.  “He has worked very hard for this position and next year’s 41st General Assembly will no doubt be made better due in large part to his contributions.”

The Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature brings students from around Tennessee to the State Capitol for four days in November. Approximately 250 students were in attendance this year. During their stay in Nashville, students debated legislation written by their peers, conducted student elections, and voted on bills that could affect the future of Tennessee. TISL is operated by an alumni board of directors and an elected student executive council. The top bills passed by the student legislature over the four-day event will be sent to the Tennessee State Legislature for consideration. Tennessee's seatbelt law originated as a TISL bill.
