The focus of the 2010 NSLC annual meeting was on leadership development. Tim Elmore, Christian author of the Habitude series of servant leadership books, spoke to the group during the opening banquet. Workshops were led by directors of community life at the schools and specialists from the Nashville area, including Trevecca alumus Dwayne Gunter, former CEO, COO, and CFO who presently manages the East region for ePartners. Workshop themes included "Leading vs. Managing your Student Government," "Motivating and Empowering Others," and "How to Develop a Strategic Plan."
In addition, Trevecca President Dan Boone spoke passionately to the group of student leaders and chief student development officers of the USA/Canada Nazarene institutions, and Trevecca Chaplain Tim Green shared a powerful closing message and led the group in the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Also, NSLC participants attended officer group meetings, a dodge ball tournament between the schools, a trip on the Music City Queen, a tour of Nashville, and a “Friday Night Live” entertainment event on April 9.
Officers for the 2010-2011 school year were elected during the business session. They are student co-chair, Evan Karg, Olivet Nazarene University; vice co-chair, Josh Dampf, MidAmerica Nazarene University; Jalaine Weller, secretary, TNU; and Preston O'Malley, treasurer, Northwest Nazarene University.
NSLC is an annual conference, begun in 1964. Each spring, a group of executive student officers from the nine Nazarene universities come together for the event, which emphasizes the leadership development of student government.
