Blake McMeans, an advocate against drunk driving, spoke on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University as part of the Promise Tour on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 3:00 PM.
The event was sponsored by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office in conjunction with Trevecca’s Social Work Program, Criminal Justice and Sociology Program, Social Justice Program, Chaplain’s Office, and Human Performance Department.
For McMeans, his Promise Tour (part of a foundation he began), is an opportunity to challenge individuals to vow to themselves and their families not to drink and drive or ride with anyone who has been drinking. His message to the Trevecca audience had a far greater impact when the 32-year-old former tennis phenom walked to the podium. With speech and a gait slowed greatly from a tragic 1994 auto accident, McMeans tells his compelling story and warns others not to make the same mistake he did.
