University trustee becomes circuit court judge

Trevecca Nazarene University trustee Don Myers, of Maitland, Florida, was elected circuit judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida (Orlando) on April 30, 2010, without opposition.
                Myers, a partner in the law firm Bailey & Myers, P.A., is a civil trial lawyer in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, first-party insurance disputes, and bad-faith litigation. He earned both his baccalaureate and master’s degrees at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and worked in the field of speech, language, and hearing disorders before attending law school at the University of Florida. He graduated from law school with honors in 1989 and accepted a position with the law firm of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor, and Reed, P.A. He later joined the firm of Parrish & Bailey, P.A.
                He is a member of The Florida Bar (1989), the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Orange County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before all Florida State courts, the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He is active in the adoption community throughout the State of Florida and has helped more than 200 families finalize international adoptions.
                Myers has received the following honors: voted by his peers as Best of the Bar in the Orlando Business Journal, named to the Florida Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite, and recognized for his commitment to provide pro bono legal services in Central Florida with the Silver Pin, Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award.
                He and Debbie, his wife of 24 years, have four children. They are active members of Center Pointe Community Church of the Nazarene, where he served for several years as secretary of the board and chairman of the Finance Committee. Myers serves on the advisory board of the Central Florida District Church of the Nazarene and volunteers in many community organizations.
                Following the primary election on August 24, 2010, Myers’s election will be declared, and his term will begin in January 2011.
                Myers becomes the second sitting judge to serve currently on the Trevecca Board of Trustees. He joins Charles Davis, who is chairman of the Board and an appellate judge for the Second District Court of Appeals for the State of Florida.
