Environmental student group celebrates ìFossil Fuels Dayî

The Environmental Sustainability Association (ESA) at Trevecca Nazarene University is celebrating “Fossil Fuels Day” with 2 events on Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1.

Author Amanda Little will speak Thursday afternoon on her book, “Power Trip from Oil Wells to Solar Cells – Our Ride to the Renewable Future” and her experiences on large oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. This lecture will be held from at 4:00-6:00 p.m., in Greathouse Science Building, room 101.

A student-sponsored Green Art Show will be held Friday, April 1, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Jernigan Student Center in the center of campus. Included in the display will be newly discovered photographs of the Southern Oil fire that threatened the campus on March 30 and 31, 1982. An explosion at Southern Oil, a business formerly adjacent to the campus, caused the fire which involved 50,000 cases of motor oil.

Both events will be open to the public and are free of charge.
