Trevecca Community responds to tornado damage

Several trees punctured the roof of the Comer family home in Elora, Tennessee, following tornadoes which touched down April 27-28, 2011. Members of the Trevecca Community were on-hand to assist this family. (See additional photos below.)
On Saturday April 30, 2011, a team from Trevecca Nazarene University and Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene traveled to Elora, Tennessee, to help the Comer family, members of the Huntsville (Alabama) Church of the Nazarene, move into temporary housing after their home was damaged during last week’s tornadoes. Several trees fell on their house, resulting in significant water damage to the home.

“The day was a success,” said Jamie Casler, Trevecca professor of social justice. “We were able to move all of their major items to their temporary home and removed the carpet to allow the home to begin drying. We also cleared fallen branches from Mrs. Comer’s mother’s yard,” Casler added. Pastor Hunter, a Trevecca graduate, assisted in the coordination of this relief effort.

A second team of relief workers is currently being coordinated for the weekend of May 21 and 22.  Faculty, staff, and students who are interested in participating in a work day should contact Jamie Casler at jcasler@trevecca.edu.
