Men's Golf Team Now 3rd at NCCAA National Championship

Trevecca's men's golf team is participating in the 2011 NCCAA Men's Golf Championships at the Hombre Golf Course in Panama City, Florida. Trevecca moved up to third after Tuesday's second round play. The team was in fifth place after the first round of play on Monday. Trevecca shot a tournament best 296 on Tuesday,  the second- best team effort on either day. The best round of the day for Trevecca came from senior Skip Jones. He recorded an even-par 72. Joey Bradley followed up his opening round 75 with a 73 today. He's now tied for ninth overall with a two-round total of 148.

Trevecca shot a opening round 307 and was tied with Simpson University, but after the 296 on Tuesday, the team is in third overall, only eight strokes behind first-place California Baptist and two behind second-place Dallas Baptist.

Trevecca's two-round total is now 307-296=603. Cal Baptist is at 294-302=596, and Dallas Baptist sits at 297-304=601.

Trevecca men's golf coach Robbie Wilson was please with his team's effort on Tuesday. Wilson said, "Our guys knew coming into today that we needed to play our best golf of the year. The leadership of our seniors showed up today, and we didn't blink."

William Potts has the second-best two-round total for Trevecca with a 75-75=150. He is in 12th place overall. Jones is next in 15th place with a 79-72=151. Dylan Waters (78-76=154), and Austin Dillard (85-83=168) are the final two Trojans competing.

Justin Burns of Central Baptist is leading the individual competition with a five under 72-67=139.

The course is playing to a par of 72 over 6570 yards. There are 18 teams and 93 golfers participating. Following Tuesday's round the championships will be reduced to the top 12 teams. For tee times and other information, visit the 2011 NCCAA Men's Golf National Championships Homepage

The NCCAA Championship consists of three 18-hole rounds. Each team played one 18-hole round on both Monday and Tuesday. The top 12 teams make the cut and will play a championship round on Wednesday.
