Second Fall Celebration welcomed 600+ senior adults to campus

The Second Annual Fall Celebration and Trevecca Showcase, held Friday, Oct. 21,  welcomed more than 600 persons, representing eleven states. The day was hosted by Trevecca ambassadors Moody and Nina Gunter and sponsored by Trevecca’s Legacy Partners, a recognition society for alumni and friends of Trevecca who include the university in their estate plans. The day celebrated the Speer Family’s contributions to gospel music and their connection to Trevecca. Allison Durham Speer welcomed singer  Lindsey Huggins and former members of the Speer Family musical group—Bob and Jeanne Johnson, Sue Dodge, Tim Parton, Mike Allen, Doug Young and Karen Apple Young,  Joyce Black West.  Brian Speer coordinated the musical parts of the program.

In addition to the music, the day also included a showcase of university departments and inspirational remarks. Trevecca student Mica Massey told about her “Trevecca story.” Faye Speer, alumna and the widow of Brock Speer, shared her memories of her days at Trevecca and of travels with the Speer Family in an interview conducted by Steve Hoskins.  Mark Greathouse recounted the ways that Trevecca had had an impact on his life.

Trevecca alumni who participated in the program are the following: Moody and Nina Gunter, Lindsey Huggins, Brian Speer, Faye Speer, Steve Hoskins, Mark Greathouse, and Dan Boone (Trevecca president).

Plans are underway for the 2012 Fall Celebration and Trevecca Showcase, to be held October 19. Next year’s event will feature the popular gospel music group, the Collingsworth Family.
