Trevecca designated “Tennessee Arboretum”

The Arboretum Certification Committee of the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) announced that Trevecca has officially fulfilled the requirements to earn the designation “a Tennessee arboretum.” Trevecca has 60 different species.  TUFC requirements for achieving the arboretum status include labeling the different species with tags (with both the botanical and common names) and providing a map which shows the location of the trees, a map suitable for self-guided tours.

For many years former president Homer J. Adams had worked to have one of every tree native to Tennessee growing on Trevecca’s campus, and in 2010 two Boy Scouts began this project to help Trevecca become an arboretum. In these two years, the University has purchased trees, with intention, planted them, and cared for existing trees to help achieve arboretum status.
