Today, February 7, 2014, the first Trevecca Celebration took place in Florida. More than 375 senior adults attended this event at Highlands Park Church of the Nazarene in Lakeland, Florida.
Trevecca president Dan Boone, personnel from Trevecca's Office of External Relations, volunteers from Churches of the Nazarene in Florida, and Trevecca ambassadors Moody and Nina Gunter welcomed participants to this event. Attendees came from 12 states and 72 different church congregations.
The Gunters, chairpersons of the planning committee for this Trevecca Celebration and the one held on Trevecca's campus each October, had dreamed of a way to present Trevecca to audiences who might not know about it. And the Trevecca Celebrations were begun.
Today's program featured music by the Collingsworth Family and a presentation by Trevecca alumnus John Gillespie. Awaken, a Trevecca music ensemble, also performed during the day.
In his welcome, President Dan Boone explained the purpose of this day: "Christians are not selfish people; we are called to be a people who are longer and broader than we might be on our own . . . . We are here today because we believe that parents and grandparents do influence their children and grandchildren . . . and we invite you to be part of the grand adventure at Trevecca."
The next Trevecca Celebration will be October 17, 2014, on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.
