Trevecca’s collection of farm animals recently expanded significantly through the donation of a variety of rare animals from Tess Meleté, owner of Falling Star Farm. Her gift of sixteen miniature fainting goats, five Julianna pigs, 12 heritage-breed chickens, and two Great Pyrenees dogs joined the farm’s heritage-breed chickens. (The Great Pyrenees are working dogs who guard the other animals from predators.)
University administrators are excited about the learning potential that these animals offer. On one level, simply learning to care for these rare breeds will increase students’ learning. On the other hand, college science students will be able to study the unique genetics of these animals.
