Trevecca Nazarene University

Business professionals’ luncheon features music business experts

Guest panel featuring Lee, DeGarmo, and Diehl

The Trevecca Nazarene University Association of Business Professionals hosted its summer networking luncheon on Tuesday, June 3, in the Boone Business Building. Discussing “Disruptive Technologies: Lessons from the Music Industry” were three guest panelists with long careers in the music industry: Eddie DeGarmo, president of Capitol CMG Publishing; Bill Lee, senior vice president of licensing operations for SESAC; and Dean Diehl, senior vice president of Provident Music Group and the director of Trevecca’s Music Business Program. Rick Mann, Trevecca’s director of graduate and professional studies, was the moderator.

DeGarmo, Lee, and Diehl, who have served a combined total of more than 100 years in the music industry, explained how innovations in the music industry have disrupted that industry’s way of operating. On the other hand, they acknowledged that those disruptions have also created new opportunities for companies who can think creatively about those disrupting innovations and develop new business models that make use of those same disrupting innovations.

The next business networking luncheon will be held on October 30, 2014, when Dan Boone, president of Trevecca, will discuss his new book about work. The “Celebrating the Wit and Wisdom of Women” luncheon will be held on February 11, 2015. With the help of sponsors for these business luncheons, the funds raised from the sale of tickets to these events are used for scholarships for business students at Trevecca. Sponsors of the summer luncheon were the following: Sun Trust Bank; idezi; SESAC; Deborah Story; Penske; and Martin, Allbee and Associattes, LLC.
