A two-year credit certificate program in praise and worship at Trevecca Nazarene University will begin enrolling students in July of 2013. Approved by the Trevecca Board of Trustees at its recent meeting, this program is the University’s first for-credit certificate program.
Functioning within the National Praise and Worship Institute, this interdisciplinary program is designed to equip praise and worship leaders for effective service in churches. The program will be comprised of 60 hours of coursework in both face-to-face and video formats. Course work will include classes in religion, music, and music performance, with an emphasis on worship ministry leadership and participation in worship bands.
Administrators of the program expect it to be particularly appealing for persons who play in church worship bands and desire to become worship pastors. Anticipated enrollment for the first year is 60 students in the program; they will live in campus housing.
An important feature of the program for students will be publishing opportunities through Nashville Christian publishing companies, including Lillenas Publishing Company, which has moved its offices to the Trevecca campus.
“We are excited about the opportunity to connect song writers and music leaders with music publishers,” stated Dan Boone, president of Trevecca. “This new program is our university’s gift to the church for educating and training worship leaders today.”
