Majors
The School of Religion offers two undergraduate majors: religion and religious studies.
The majority of students in the School of Religion major in religion. This degree is a professional degree, preparing the student for specific professional areas of ministry as well as preparing the student for graduate study in Religion. The curriculum in the religion major has been approved by the International Church of the Nazarene to satisfy all academic outcomes required for ordination. The student majoring in Religion selects from one of the following professional minors:
Pastoral Ministry
Youth Ministry
Christian Education/Children's Ministry
Worship Ministry
Compassionate Ministry
Students majoring in religion are required to spend two semesters (or one semester and one summer) in ministerial internships. During the internship the student works within a local church setting with a ministerial mentor. While the student continue to take classes, the internships are designed to give the student specific experience in the various activities of Christian ministry.
The religious studies major requires that a student is majoring in a second area outside of the School of Religion. In addition, a student who transfers to the School of Religion with 60 hours of academic credit or more, either from within the University or from outside the University, may petition the School of Religion for an exception to the second major requirement. The religious studies major does not meet the education requirements for ordination in the Church of the Nazarene.
