J. V. Morsch Center for Social Justice

At Trevecca, we know that students entering college today are different.

You are not satisfied to passively watch the world go by; you are engaged in it. You see injustice and seek to right it. Your environmental consciousness is changing the market for "green" goods and services. You offer your time in community service. Whether serving in a soup kitchen, fundraising for a cure for cancer, helping to build a home, or caring for children in need, the bottom line is that you want to make a difference in the world.

Named in honor of the Rev. James V. Morsch, a former pastor of First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville and the founder and national volunteer liason coordinator for Nazarene Disaster Response, the mission of the J. V. Morsch Center for Social Justice is to equip students, like you, to identify and address social issues and injustices in your world utilizing strong biblical principles to inform your world view. You'll learn the meaning of being a Christian activist in a broken and hurting world through rigorous academic studies and hands-on experiences.

The J. V. Morsch Center for Social Justice creates on-ramps for students of many different vocational interests to learn about--and practice--applying their talents and energy to solving real-world problems. Its Justice Education events will get you dialoguing on pressing issues. Its Environmental Programs--like the University Composting Initiative and the Community Gardens Project--offer you practical ways to live out responsible enviromental stewardship. Through the Center you can volunteer in local community development initiatives or earn academic credits in field internships with urban ministries.

At the Center, you'll be challenged to

  • Think wisely about today's tough issues
  • Share God's heart for the poor and oppressed
  • Get your hands dirty making a difference
