Research Endowment Fund

The Education Research Endowment Fund was established in 2003 to provide opportunities for individuals who are interested in helping to fund scholarship in educational research by Trevecca’s faculty.  By action of the endowment board, the fund was named in honor of Dr. Melvin Welch, dean emeritus of the School of Education, and Ms. Joyce Welch, former manager of the University’s bookstore, for their commitment to Trevecca and most especially to the doctoral program.

Research is an area of emphasis identified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the southeast regional accrediting agency that granted level V status to Trevecca.  Recognizing the need to assist the University in continuing to meet the challenges of a level V institution, Dr. Welch conceived the idea of the fund, and graduates and students of the Ed.D. program, faculty members, and friends of the University have raised more than $100,000 as seed money to establish the fund. At its August 2004 meeting, the Endowment Board voted to begin making awards to faculty in spring 2005.

In spring 2005 Drs. Mardon and Richelle Day, alummni and local podiatrists, provided a lead gift of $25,000 to advance the endowment.
