**Dr. Alice Patterson and Ms. Etta Crittendon, Early Reading Specialist for the Tennessee Department of Education, presented a session at the 8th annual LEADership Conference hosted by the Tennessee Department of Education.  Their session was entitled, Why Didn’t I Learn This in College?  Practical Advice for New Teachers.  The conference was attended by more than 1300 educators from across Tennessee.

 

  **Karen Lea, Richard Parrott, and Dale Oswalt (ONU) have been accepted to present a workshop titled "Attitudes About Multicultural Issues and Education: A Comparison of Candidates, Teachers, Administrators, and Staff" at the national conference AACTE – American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education – Atlanta – February 2010.
**Esther Swink, dean, and Deborah Baruzzini, Ed.D. graduate, Trevecca adjunct, and H.R. Specialist at Belmont University, are invited presenters to the Lilly Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in Traverse City, Michigan. In September, they will co-present strategies for engaging graduate students actively in learning.

** Richard Moore  conducted an in-service on school law for approximately 100 teachers at Dickson Middle School on July 28.

**Stella Simpson and Alice Patterson conducted training sessions for the State Department of Education’s New Teacher Induction program during June 2009 for over 100 teachers from across the state of Tennessee. 

 

 


**Judy Bivens and Karen Lea are charter members of the board for Knowledge Learning Academies

**Judy Bivens is the new Chairperson of the NCATE/ALA/AASL Coordinating Committee.  This is a national professional organization position. This committee works with NCATE (the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education), ALA, and AASL to structure standards for nationally recognized school library media specialist preparation programs, to assist programs as they prepare their program reports, and to train reviewers to review those programs.

 

 

**Esther Swink has been appointed by Director of Metro Schools, Dr. Jesse Register, to the Human Capital Transformational Leadership Group.

**During summer 2009, Esther Swink was elected to the executive committee, representing higher education, for Nazarene Educators Worldwide.


**St. Joseph's school in Knoxville, TN is partnering with the School of Education. Karen Lea is conducting staff inservices once a month on Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum for the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
