Trevecca is a small, friendly community with no violent crime; however,
neither the University nor the surrounding area is crime free. Trevecca
has a security force of five full-time staff officers and
students who serve as part-time staff. Security is on duty 24
hours a day, seven days a week, and can be contacted at ext.
1296. The Office of Security is located in the house on Lester Avenue across from Waggoner Library.
Personal Safety Tips
The
University makes every effort to maintain a safe campus for all
students; however, you need to take some precautions to ensure your safety.
- Walk in groups of two or more after dark.
- Walk in well-lighted, well-traveled areas.
- Make sure someone knows where you are and when you expect to return.
- After dark, have your keys ready before you get to your apartment or car.
- Always look into the back seat of your car and under your car before getting in. Also, lock your doors while driving.
- If you receive annoying or obscene phone calls, hang up and report the call to your RD.
- Always find out who is on the other side of the door before you open it.
Tips for Protecting Possessions
- Before coming to campus have identification numbers engraved on
your valuable belongings such as computers, stereos, etc., and keep a
list of numbers in a safe place.
- Examine your parents’ homeowners policy and be sure your personal effects are insured.
- Always close and lock your room door, suite door, and windows
whenever you leave your room or apartments, even if you are going
away for only a few minutes. Never loan out your key, and
report a lost key immediately to your RA. If you can’t find your
key, see your RA about a replacement. The cost might be worth it.
- Do not keep a lot of cash in your room.
- Adhere to visitation policies.
- Keep all hall doors and outside doors locked. Propping hall
doors or outside doors for easy reentry compromises the security
of the entire building and is considered a very serious violation
of policy.
- Report all suspicious activities and individuals to the RA, RD, the night RA, or to Security.
- Always lock your car, and never leave valuables in your car.
