Class of 2001 From barrenness ... To blessing “My recent, giant leap of faith from the stability of an associate ministry position in a large church in order to become the pastor of a small church in need of a turnaround was possible because earlier I had made another leap. As a religion student at Trevecca, I began to discover a God who was not a harsh judge, one who tallied my every mistake and waited for the opportunity to knock me over with condemnation the moment I failed. “It was during some of my darkest days that Trevecca professors and pastors who had graduated from Trevecca became my friends. They diligently taught me how to think through what I would face in life, but they also walked beside me, helping me see God in my pain and struggle. Through their influence, I discovered a God whose desire is to move people from the emptiness of their own barrenness to the abundance of his blessing. Christians recognize that Jesus calls us to follow him, yet we forget that he also promises to lead us. Trevecca helped me experience a transformation in my view of God that changed how I saw myself and the world. Because of that leap in my faith, I learned to take the kind of risks that lead to giant leaps that are moving me from my own barrenness to God’s blessing.” Tim is the pastor of Varina Church of the Nazarene in Richmond, Virginia. He and his wife, Anita, have one child, Noah. |
