From goals . . . to fulfillment
"We came to Trevecca on athletic scholarships without any first-hand acquaintance with the school. Neither of us knew anything about the Church of the Nazarene, nor did we have any friends at Trevecca; in fact, we did not know each other before we met at Trevecca and later married.
"Both of us knew that we wanted to attend a college where we could develop our identities and strengthen our character, and we did not want to be lost in the crowd on a bigger campus. The interest of two coaches—the women’s soccer coach and the men’s basketball coach—convinced us to come to Trevecca.
" We did not know what to expect when we came to Trevecca, but we have grown to love this place. We found a positive spiritual environment. We liked the challenge of fitting in, in a new environment, and found our places at Trevecca. Additionally, we found a caring community composed of genuine people who place a high priority on treating all persons with love—regardless of their differences.
"That caring community helped us when we started our journey together. Our friends, professors, and coaches were supportive and helpful and stood by us. We might have been overlooked on a larger campus.
"Now, as we are about to graduate from Trevecca, we realize that God knew that we needed to be at Trevecca. He knew that we needed to be part of a community that values persons."
Josh is a sports and exercise science major from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Courtney is a mass communication major from Franklin, Tennessee. They will graduate from Trevecca on May 3, 2008.
