Class of 2008 M.A. From career burnout... To a new professionalism “When I enrolled in Trevecca's Master's in Educational Leadership Program, I had been a classroom teacher for 14 years. While I still loved working with high school students, I was beginning to feel the symptoms of teacher burnout—a weariness with incessant discipline problems, complaining parents, changing administrations which seemed to undervalue the work teachers do in the classroom. At Trevecca I learned to see these problems from different perspectives, and I also learned that I was not the only one experiencing these issues. “My studies and relationships built at Trevecca provided me with the tools I needed to be more positive and to cope with some of the problems I was facing. Moreover, and most important, my experiences at Trevecca gave me a heightened sense of pride in my work. My sense of professionalism was rejuvenated. I owe a debt of gratitude to my professors for uplifting my spirits. The inspiration and guidance, both spiritual and professional, that I have received at Trevecca have been priceless.” David teaches high school social studies. A former Army officer, David has a new career in education. He and his wife have two children. |
