From self-doubt . . . to self-confidence
“I managed to earn an associate’s degree from a community college right after high school, but I had little hope of completing my bachelor’s degree; however, when I learned about Trevecca’s degree-completion program, I thought that it might suit my situation. I was working two jobs before I started attending Trevecca, and I stayed with those jobs all the way through the MHR Program.
“When I entered Trevecca, I lacked self-confidence, but my MHR experiences helped me believe in myself and my ability to do great things. There were challenges, but like anything worth having, a person has to find a way to overcome. Earning my degree while working two jobs and raising a family gave me the confidence to believe that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to.
“When I finished my degree, I took a bold step. I walked into my director’s office and said, ‘You don’t know me, but my name is Bryce, and I recently got my degree at Trevecca. I just thought you would want to know.’ Then I walked out and went back to work.
“Almost a year later, a job posting for an inventory control analyst came open, I applied for that position after some encouragement from a supervisor. I was later offered that position and now work in an administrative position at Nissan, using the Just-in-Time inventory system with the responsibility for making sure that more than 1,000 different parts are always on hand and ready for the assembly line.
“Earlier this year I put to work what MHR had taught me about writing and entered a contest sponsored by Nissan. Contestants had to write an 850-word essay that creatively described their workday at Nissan. I won, and my prize was a trip with some of Nissan’s corporate communications employees to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where I test drove the new Nissan GT-R supercar. What a great experience!
“My quality of life has improved because of the confidence I gained from reaching my goals. My MHR experience confirmed what my father taught me: hard work pays off, and it is never too late to pursue your dreams. I encourage others to consider Trevecca if they want a quality education and lifelong values. Each professor genuinely wants to see every student succeed and do well.”
Bryce is an inventory control analyst at Nissan. Now enrolled in Trevecca’s MBA Program, he looks forward to even more accomplishments in his future. He is married and has two children.
