"After completing the MHR Program, I was sure that I wanted to return to Trevecca for my master’s degree.
"As part of the Ethics course in the MBA Program, the professor spent some time teaching us how to write analytically and persuasively. During the break I expressed to the professor my concerns about the assignment. After having already worked in the auto industry for 25 years, most of my report writing was in bullet-point style—using as few words as possible.
"My professor looked at me with the most encouraging smile and said, “Just because you haven’t been given the opportunity doesn’t mean you lack the ability. Let’s learn the skills so that when the opportunity does come your way, you will be ready. “

Tommie, who lives in Smyrna, Tennessee, has been employed by Nissan North American for 27 years. She is currently a human relations business partner. She is the only member of her immediate family who had the opportunity to attend college, and she is the only MBA in her extended family.
