Jalaine Weller
Rising Junior
From indecision . . . to assurance
"I worked hard in high school because my parents always said that hard work at that time of my life would open many doors for college. When it was time for me to choose a college, I had some prestigious options. I knew that I could receive an incredible education at the Ivy League schools that were on my list; however, I also knew that I wanted to attend a university that offered a holistic experience—one with opportunities for me to develop personally and spiritually. When it was time for me to choose a university, I decided that I wanted more than career preparation; I wanted preparation for a whole life. Thus, I chose Trevecca.
"When I entered Trevecca in the fall of 2007, I was admitted with sophomore academic standing because of the Advanced Placement credits that I had earned in high school. Over the past year, I have not only grown academically, but as a person as well; and, most importantly, I have come to understand what it means to let go of my tight grasp on independence and truly be part of a Christian community. Because Trevecca takes seriously its commitment to be a Christian community, I have learned the value of life in such a community. I finally understand what it means to be 'made for relationships.'
"Although my decision to come to Trevecca was not an easy one, looking back, I am positive that this is exactly where I am supposed to be. Trevecca is a great 'fit' for me."
