Overall responsibility

The Audio-Visual Technician performs technical and logistical services that include onsite, telephone, and remote technical support for TNU AV equipment, events, and installations with minimal supervision as well as assisting in the management and training of Student workers and aiding in the planning and production of on campus special events. The Audio-Visual Technician is a regular full-time 12-month position which reports to the Director of Client Services.
Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate response to Helpdesk AV requests for client support with a high standard of customer service
  • Follow up with any AV issues that clients experience
  • Record progress and accurate resolutions into internal trouble ticket database
  • Test, configure, maintain, install, and repair supported client AV hardware/software
    (Data Projectors, Sound Consoles, Amps, Speakers, TVs, Document Cameras)
  • Troubleshoot and maintain classroom Crestron Control systems and campus Nexia DSP, Crown, and Yamaha systems
  • Assist in supporting student workers for chapel services and other campus events including coordinating and training with the AV Events Coordinator and Dir. Of Client Services.
  • Assist in coordinating AV event requests to train and schedule technicians, plan logistics, meet with pre-production for:
    • Admission Events
    • Campus Life Events
    • External Client Events
    • Chapel Production
  • Inform, educate, consult for campus event equipment maintenance, purchase and rental requests:
    •  Installed and Mobile Audio Production Systems
    • Installed and Mobile Lighting Systems
    • Installed and Mobile Video and Broadcast Systems (Cameras, Projection, LED Wall and LCDs)
    • Staging and Rigging
  • Assist with research for AV equipment purchase requests and upgrades.
  • Create and maintain Audio Visual related documentation.
  • Provide inventory updates and changes to internal inventory database
  • Coordinate with vendors on:
    • Warranty part exchanges/replacements
    • Crestron programming coordination
    • Research, quotes, wiring diagrams, and equipment recommendations
  • Basic Crestron programming
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; attending continuing education courses; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
Consults with:
  • CIO and other ITS Department Employees
  • Campus Events Coordinator, Chaplin, Student Life Coordinator and other campus entities
  • TNU Faculty, Staff, Administrators, and Students
  • Vendors

  • Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of common AV equipment and techniques
  • Experience installing, testing, upgrading, and supporting Audio Visual equipment including Crestron Control systems and Digital signal processors
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve Audio Visual issues, either independently or with help from vendor
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to patiently and adequately explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • AV installation experience preferred
