Dear Parents and Youth,

Greetings from the Office of the Six8 Fellowship at Trevecca Nazarene University.  I am writing to describe to you briefly about our ministry and particularly the safety precautions of our program during the summer intensive.  From July 8th-15th, Six8 will host 50 high school students and six adult mentors on the campus of TNU and at three different ministry sites in the city of Nashville.

While on campus and at ministry locations, all adults and leaders will be well-trained, experienced, careful, and committed to empowering young people to see how God is shaping and leading them to love God and their neighbors. To do this, the staff, professors, and adult mentors will be subjected to a thorough background screening through the university, along with conduct training administered by the university and the staff of the Six8 Fellowship. Moreover, those in leadership will work with partner ministries to make sure that when youth are off campus they are learning and serving in a safe and challenging environment. Certain staff will be able to dispense medication, and there will also be a nurse on campus should a medical need arrive.

Throughout the week, Six8 will have a safety plan in place to deal with emergencies and unforeseen issues that may arise both on and off campus. This plan will be made known to each adult leader and will be on file and approved by the university. This type of procedure allows us to have a plan in place so that our week goes smoothly for everyone involved. We are committed to the safest endeavor possible, and each adult leader will be in regular communication with each other, which allows us to lay a solid safety foundation for the week.

We ask that communication while your son or daughter is at the summer intensive be limited so that they can enjoy the full experience of the week. We understand that emergencies and “homesickness” does happen, and communication will be allowed to happen if those should arise. Also, there will be designated times that youth can communicate with friends and family via their cell phones. Please know that this is not some sort of restrictive control policy.  Rather, given the busyness and fullness of the week, it is just not possible to allow constant communication with loved ones without sacrificing valuable moments and time of learning.

Of course, the contact information of the Director and Program Coordinator, along with appropriate TNU phone numbers, will be made available to parents at all times if there is anything you should need. If you would like that information, please email either Jasmine Hiland or Brandon Winstead at jihiland@trevecca.edu or mbwinstead@trevecca.edu.

Thanks,

Rev. M. Brandon Winstead, Ph.D.
