Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, International Studies, or related field
- Must be either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U. S.
- 3-5 years’ experience in Higher Education
- Knowledge of US immigration system, SEVIS, and F-1 visa regulations
- Experience with individuals from different backgrounds
Other preferred experience
- Spanish Speaking
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to make important decisions under pressure
- Willingness and ability to learn principles of immigration law
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in working with sensitive student situations
- Proficiency with computer software and ability to self-teach on a simple database
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and run orientation programs for international students, at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Create and maintain a separate Immigration student file for all Trevecca Nazarene University international students from all campus programs both undergraduate and graduate.
- Advise international students on all F-1 nonimmigrant regulations including visa application process and maintaining visa status.
- Serve as a Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) in SEVIS and ensure standards and ethics as recommended by SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators (National Association of Foreign Student Advisors) are followed by Trevecca Nazarene University.
- Endorse all SEVIS I-20's printed via the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).
- Facilitate application process for Optional Practical Training application to USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Service).
- Provide informational sessions to international students regarding work authorization opportunities such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).
- Maintain networking relationships with Music City NAFSA and TAIE (Tennessee Association of International Educators) to ensure best practices for international student support on campus.
- Meet regularly with international students, both proactively and reactively, to offer support and advising, and connect them to university resources.
- Serve as primary initial point of customer services for international students and their families.
- Be a resource to the campus regarding international applicants and students.
- Chair and manage the university’s international student council.
- Communicate with the Trevecca community regarding opportunities to serve international students, including locating host families for Christmas Break.
- Manage the general Global Engagement budget as well as the “Hill Away From Home” Giving Day Fund.
- Supervision of the Global Engagement Graduate Assistant.
- Serve as the primary advisor for students preparing to study abroad.
- Hold informational meetings and promote options for Trevecca students to participate in university-sponsored international trips, including Study Abroad and other travel opportunities.
- Cultivate relationships with faculty and other advisors to assess the curricular fit of current program options and to propose areas for future development as well as maintain professional contact with program partners.
- Engage in promotion and outreach in line with Office of Global Engagement strategy and objectives and in collaboration with campus units and off-campus partners.
- Coordinate pre-departure and re-entry orientations for students who participate in study abroad partner programs.
- Keep accurate university records for TNU global trips for students and possible travel for the purposes of Study Abroad/other global trip planning.
- Other duties as assigned.
