You are invited to the Alumni and Friends bus trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Sunday morning, September 25, through Thursday evening, September 29.

Trip highlights

  • A Sunday morning send off by President Dan Boone
  • An inspiring devotional, comments, hymn singing and prayer daily
  • As our bus departs campus, you will be given an overview of your day, as we step back in time to our nation’s history
  • Assurance of a fun-filled bus ride with laughter, games, trivia, quiet time, and rest stops
  • And, time for designated meal breaks and so much more to whet your appetite with anecdotes stretching your imagination and knowledge base to heightened levels for all

Schedule of Events

Day 1

Leave Trevecca at 7:00 a.m. as we travel to Colonial Williamsburg, having dinner (included) and lodging in Staunton, VA.

Day 2

From Staunton, we travel to Williamsburg where we have reservations at the Hampton Inn for the next two nights(CB). Arriving in the afternoon at the  visitors center, we get our tickets for the historic area to include all the homes, shops, and museums in the historic area open to the public and dinner together in the evening.

Day 3

Today will be for YOU to once again enjoy the sights, sounds of colonial Williamsburg. You can see everything you want today as you set your own pace. Tonight dinner is included at the Kings Arm Tavern.

Day 4

This morning we depart Williamsburg and travel to Charlottesville, for a visit to the home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello. We also are in for a treat as we have lunch at Michie Tavern which was a stage coach stop. Tonight we have reservations in Roanoke.

Day 5

Travel home with a final, fun-filled day on the bus.

Jeremy Cowart
Jeremy Cowart loves the creative process. From painting to photography, marketing campaigns and more, it’s the act of creating something from nothing that fuels his passion. Jeremy got his start as a painter, then started his own graphic design company and eventually switched over to photography full-time. He has photographed celebrities (Taylor Swift, Tim Tebow), created the social network/community OKDOTHIS, and founded Help Portrait, a worldwide movement of photographers using their time, equipment, and expertise to give back to those less fortunate. Jeremy played a pivotal role in St. Thomas Health’s award-winning “Nothing Shall Be Impossible” marketing campaign, shooting the photos used in the multimedia campaign. Benji Cowart
Benji Cowart is a worship leader and songwriter. Benji co-wrote the song “Redeemed” with Mike Weaver of Big Daddy Weave. The song was nominated for four Dove Awards, reached #1 on the Billboard Christian Charts, and was certified gold in 2015. Benji has also had songs recorded by Meredith Andrews, Karen Peck, Josh Wilson and Aaron Shust. He and his wife, Jenna, have also released several albums of their own. Blake Thompson
Blake Thompson was hired as the producer of “The Dave Ramsey Show” in 1996 as just the eighth person to join the company. Ramsey Solutions now has more than 550 team members with Blake serving as Senior Executive Producer of Ramsey Media. In addition to supervising production of “The Dave Ramsey Show” and “Chris Brown’s True Stewardship” radio programs and podcasts, Blake oversees production of the company’s YouTube and video channels, along with multiple podcasts including Chris Hogan’s Retire Inspired, EntreLeadership, Leadership Momentum, and Christy Brown’s Business Boutique. Participants will be able to:

  • Outline the laws of human bonding and how they operate in adult love relationships.
  • List the stages, steps and interventions of EFT.
  • Make sense of the stuck places that perpetuate negative cycles and emotional disconnection in love relationships.
  • Describe how to set up new bonding interactions that redefine connection and change working models of attachment.
  • Outline how to adapt the model to different individuals, including escalated, traumatized, and depressed partners.

Couple Therapy in the 21st Century: On target, effective and revolutionary

7:45 - 8:30 AM Registration
8:30 - 10:30 AM Introduction to couple intervention in the 21st century. The state of the art introduction to the basics of the EFT model. EFT Research & practice.
10:45 - 12:15 PM Attachment theory and science. An overview and relevance for clinical practice. Overview of Stages and Steps of the EFT model. Specific focus on Stage 1 of EFT.
LUNCH On your own (map will be provided)
1:30 - 3:00 PM Overview of EFT interventions. Stage 2 process and change events that predict success in EFT.
3:15 - 4:00 PM Clinical exercise - Outlining negative cycles that perpetuate disconnection in Stage 1. Clinical exercise - working with emotion - shaping evocative enactments. Viewing interventions on clinical training tapes.
4:00 - 4:30 PM Summary and general discussion.

About the speaker

Dr. Sue Johnson is an author, clinical psychologist, researcher, professor, popular presenter and speaker and a leading innovator in the field of couple therapy. Sue is the primary developer of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), which has demonstrated its effectiveness in over 25 years of peer-reviewed clinical research.

Among other works, she has authored Hold Me Tight, Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love, Love Sense, The Revolutionary New Science of Romantic Relationships, The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Creating Connection (2004) and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy with Trauma Survivors (2002).

Sue Johnson is founding Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Distinguished Research Professor at Alliant University in San Diego, California, as well as Professor Emeritus, Clinical Psychology, at the University of Ottawa, Canada. Sue trains counselors in EFT worldwide and consults to the 35 international institutes and affiliated centers who practice EFT.

She lives in Ottawa with her husband. She adores Gilbert and Sullivan, Monty Python, Argentine tango and kayaking on Canada’s northern lakes.
