Mission Nashville 2017 Mission Nashville 2017

Starts: Monday, July 10, 2017

July 10 - 14, 2017
Trevecca Nazarene University

About the event

Since its founding in 1901, Trevecca has had a strong history of training people to lead, serve, and minister to others. This legacy of leadership and service is at the heart of Trevecca. It’s in that spirit the university launched Mission Nashville, a summer urban immersion camp.

Mission Nashville will provide churches with a fully organized mission trip for their youth–an opportunity for teens to see real need firsthand and respond to God’s command to be his hands, feet, and heart to others.

Each evening, corporate worship will be led by our guest speaker and one of Trevecca’s worship bands. Students will have the opportunity to make new friends, have fun, and spend time with youth from all over the country who share a passion for ministry to others.

2017 Speaker: Jeff Stark, Lead Pastor / Pekin Campus Pastor

Jeff became a Jesus follower when he was 25 years old in Macedonia. Deployed with the US Army, Jeff was met by God in a powerful way calling him from addictions and destructive life choices.

Things haven't been the same since. His wife Angie was saved 1 month later at Clarksville First Church of the Nazarene, where they began both their journeys with Jesus and their ministries. Jeff served on staff at Clarksville First for about 7 years filling multiple Associate roles.

Arriving in Erin, TN in October of 09, Jeff and Angie served a great church for nearly 5 years. Jeff and his family then moved to Bridgeway Community Church in Pekin, Illinois in July of 2014. They have two boys, Hunter (17) and Chance (16). Jeff graduated with a B.A. from Otterbein University in English Literature ('98), served 4 1/2 years in the Army as an Arabic Linguist, graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University (M.A. Religion '06), completed an M.T.S. from Vanderbilt Divinity School ('10), and is completing a Doctor of Ministry program at Lipscomb University in Missional Theology and Spiritual Formation.

Solarfest Solarfest

Starts: Monday, August 21, 2017

When the sky goes dark over Nashville on August 21, Trevecca will mark the first total eclipse over Tennessee in more than 500 years with a once-in-a-lifetime family friendly celebration picnic.

As the largest city wholly within the path of the eclipse, Nashville will be a prime viewing location for the solar event, for scientists and citizens alike. So, mark your calendars to join us for SolarFest on Trevecca’s Great Lawn—the perfect viewing location for you and your family.

Not only will you have a clear view of the sky and comfortable place to sit, but Trevecca will supply viewing glasses and more to make sure you don’t miss a moment of the total eclipse.

At SolarFest, you’ll get the opportunity to learn about the science behind the eclipse. Astronomers, Trevecca faculty members and student researchers will be on hand to answer questions, and you’ll get to see real-time data and images from Trevecca’s solar radio telescope and solar telescopes.

In addition, Dr. Matthew Huddleston, professor of physics, and his students also plan to launch a stratospheric research balloon between 12:30 and 1 p.m., with real-time tracking and data on display during SolarFest.

In addition to learning about all the science behind the once-in-a-lifetime total eclipse, when the moon completely overshadows the sun, SolarFest is also a family friendly picnic. The event will include food trucks, live music, games and free ice cream.

When: August 21, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: The Great Lawn, situated between Greathouse Science Building and Waggoner Library
What: A picnic celebration marking the first total solar eclipse over Nashville in more than 500 years, complete with food trucks, fun and science. We’ll provide the eclipse viewing glasses!
