First cruise for alumni and friends results in gift for alumni scholarships

Some participants of the Alumni and Friends Valentine's Day cruise are pictured on a stairway of the Liberty of the Seas, the cruise ship, on the final night of the cruise.

Earlier this month, Trevecca’s Office of Alumni Relations hosted its first “travel experience” for alumni and friends. On Monday, February 10, a group of 84 alumni and friends of Trevecca met in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to embark on a five-day Trevecca Alumni Valentine’s Cruise. Aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, they enjoyed five sunny days on a calm sea with two days in port—one at Labadee, Haiti (an island owned by Royal Caribbean), and another at Falmouth, Jamaica. At both places, participants had many choices of activities or excursions.

Participants enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the many activities on board, opportunities to renew friendships, and time to rest and relax. Members of the group met for dinner each evening, but individuals planned their own daytime activities. Before dinner on two evenings, the whole group met. On Tuesday evening, participants met for a devotional and introductions to each other. On Friday evening, Valentine’s Day, the group shared a devotional time followed by a humorous game. A highlight of that final group meeting was Royal Caribbean’s presentation of a check for $1,900 to the Trevecca Alumni Scholarship Fund.

“Repeatedly, members of this group told me, ‘We want to take another trip like this one,’” said Nancy Dunlap, director of alumni relations. “Everyone seemed to enjoy the ship and each other, and receiving that gift for alumni scholarships was bonus!” she added.

If you are interested in participating in a travel experience for Trevecca alumni and friends in the future, please communicate with Nancy Dunlap at Knowing about alumni interest and preferences will help the planning for future trips for alumni and friends.
